The Vikings’ Amanda Loeffler tied for second, and teammates Kelsy Nishimura and Annie Sadamoto tied for fifth Wednesday at Waikoloa Kings’ Course as Hilo clinched the BIIF team title, breaking the Warriors’ 10-year stranglehold on the crown.
Igawa, a senior and two-time BIIF runner-up, earned medalist honors for the fifth time this season, carding an 8-over 80 amid windy conditions.
Loeffler was 11 strokes back along with Kamehameha’s Shantel Antonio. Hawaii Prep’s Katie Jefferson (98) was the only other female golfer in double digits, while Nishimura and Sadamoto were at 104 as Hilo finished five shots ahead of Kamehameha.
On the boys side, Waiakea sophomore Trevor Hirata fired a 3-over 75, pocketing his second straight victory and third of the season. Hirata was six strokes clear the rest of the crowded leaderboard.
Kamehameha’s Preston Ching (81) was second, while Hilo’s Casey Nakatsu (82), Kamehameha’s Cody Pereira (83) and Hilo’s Cody Yamane (84) rounded out the top five.
At 85 was Waiakea’s Shon Katahira, who owns the other two victories this season.
The regular season winds down April 16 with a stop at Kohanaiki Golf & Ocean Club, and the three-round BIIF championships tee off April 20 with 18 holes at Hualalai Resort.
